India Nears Completion of Scrap Steel Policy
05/24/2018 - India is finalizing a national steel scrap policy and plans to open 20 scrapyards as it moves toward lifting steel production to 300 million metric tons annually, reports the Press Trust of India.
Concurrently, the government is working on a policy that would require commercial vehicles that have been on the road for more than 20 years to be scrapped.
“The Ministry of Steel will introduce a steel scrap policy this year which, in conjunction with the much-awaited vehicle scrappage policy by the Ministry of Roads, Transportation and Highways, will lay out the rules and regulations for using scrap from old vehicles to produce steel,” Steel Ministry Secretary Aruna Sharma said.
