India Extends Import Protection for 19 Steel Products
12/05/2016 - The Indian government is extending a minimum import price for 19 steel products, but is allowing the measure to lapse for many others.
According to The Financial Express newspaper in India, the government will keep the price floor in place on 19 products and set a February 2017 expiration. The price floor on 47 others was allowed to expire.
The newspaper reported that the government isn’t likely to extend the price floor any further than February, fearing a backlash from its trading partners. The industry, however, had been urging the government to keep the measure in place, arguing that the benefits had yet to trickle down.
