In Poland, ArcelorMittal Mothballs Two BFs. In Italy, It May Have a New Partner for Steel Works.
10/09/2020 - ArcelorMittal Poland will permanently close the hot end of its Krakow works, saying that there’s not enough demand, or market protection from unfairly traded imports, to support it, reports Kallanish Commodities.
According to Kallanish, one of facility’s two blast furnaces was idled in November 2019 due to weak demand; the shutdown of the remaining furnace will begin this month.
Kallanish has the story here.
In a separate European development, the economic development arm of Italy’s Economy Ministry reportedly is likely to acquire a significant stake in the former ILVA steel, according to commodities news and pricing service S&P Global Platts.
ArcelorMittal agreed to acquire ILVA and the Taranto works under a lease-and-purchase arrangement last year.
Platts has more on that development here.
