IMS to Supply X-Ray Gauges for Dofasco Cold Tandem Mill

Dofasco Inc., Canada, has placed an order with IMS Systems Inc. for a complete cold tandem mill thickness gauging system.

The new system will be installed on the No. 2 CPCM tandem mill. Scope of the system includes six new x-ray thickness gauges, computer systems, and cooling systems. In addition, IMS will supply its MEVInet-Q quality data and archiving system.

IMS gauges are considered some of the highest quality and most reliable gauges in the world. Common features contributing to this high reliability include x-ray tubes that last more than five years, no standards magazines, and detectors that last the life of the gauge.

Installation and commissioning is planned for the second quarter of 2005.

Founded in 1980, IMS continues to be an innovator in the cold gauging sector with its x-ray, isotope and optical measuring systems that gauge the length, width, thickness, flatness, coating weight, cross-profile and speed of hot and cold ferrous and non-ferrous strip and plate. The company is headquartered in Heiligenhaus, Germany, near Düsseldorf. Its North American subsidiary is located in Mars, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh.
