IMS Gauges To Be Installed at New U.S. Tube Mill
09/17/2015 - No-contact measuring systems manufacturer IMS Systems Inc. has won an order for tube gauges at a new mill in Bay City, Texas, USA, the company has announced.
The seamless tube mill is being built by Tenaris SA, its first in the U.S. The mill is to be able to produce 600,000 tons annually.
IMS will outfit the mill with a pair of tube measuring systems and accessories.
The first system, to be installed at the exit of the extractor mill, will measure wall thicknesses and eccentricities with a 13-channel gauge. It also will measure diameters and profiles with a 24-laser, high precision gauge.
The second system, to be installed at the exit of the stretch reducing mill, will measure wall thicknesses with a four-channel gauge. It also will measure diameters and profiles with a 24-laser, high-precision gauge.
“This configuration is typical for a three-stage tube forming process -- piercing, elongation and finishing -- and allows for monitoring and control of all parameters of the hot shell and pipe which are necessary to achieve the highest product quality,” the company said in a statement.
