IDOM Wins Engineering Contract for Green Iron Facility

Under the contract IDOM, will handle the second stage of the front-end loading process, advising on selection of equipment manufacturers, pursuing permitting and developing the engineering works, among other tasks. The work will take place over the remainder of 2024.

IDOM said the work will enable GravitHy to continue its de-risking strategy, prepare for OEM selection and finetune its CAPEX plan, paving the way for the financing and investment decision process.

Construction of the 2-million-metric-ton plant is to begin in 2026, with commissioning to occur in the second half of 2028.

“For IDOM, it is an honor and a satisfaction to be part of a pioneering and strategic project in the field of energy transition, that seeks to develop and apply innovative solutions for the production of iron using low-carbon hydrogen, thus reducing CO2 emissions and contributing to the decarbonization of the steel industry,” said IDOM metals and minerals director Andoni Borjabaz.
