IDOM to Consult on Direct Reduction Plant Build
02/23/2023 - A startup ironmaker that is planning to build a hydrogen-based direct reduction plant in southern France has selected consulting engineer IDOM to conduct the pre-feasibility studies, the firm has announced.
In a statement, Spain-based multinational IDOM said its scope of work includes the preliminary engineering, project implementation strategy and CAPEX/OPEX development for the startup, called GravitHy.
GravitHy announced plans for its EUR2.2 billion direct reduction plant last spring. If all goes according to plan, it will begin construction on the plant next year and have it in service in 2027.
IDOM said the pre-feasibility work will allow GravitHy to "prepare a solid dossier for the permitting process, define core packages, mitigate risks, validate key business fundamentals as well as to advance in the project financing.”
“As GravitHy is a project with many complexities, collaboration with the right partners is vital to its success. Our team is delighted to have IDOM on board, and I am looking forward to utilizing their expertise and hands-on approach to execute our pre-feasibility study successfully, working closely and alongside other stakeholders, such as local authorities and potential suppliers,” said GravitHy senior project manager Jean-Luc Kadita.
