I/N Tek & I/N Kote Announce New Leader
03/25/2014 - ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC) announced the recent appointment of Thomas Cayia to president of I/N Tek & I/N Kote, the partners’ joint venture facilities located in New Carlisle, Ind.
Reporting to Wendell Carter, vice president and general manager of ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor, Cayia is responsible for both steel finishing facilities which serve the automotive and appliance markets, overseeing the day-to-day operations including safety, quality, productivity, budgeting and cost control, and employee development.
Cayia joined predecessor company Inland Steel in January 1983 and came to I/N Tek in 1988 as a process engineer. After progressing through increasing levels of responsibility within the technology and maintenance departments at I/N Tek and I/N Kote, Cayia transferred to ArcelorMittal Hennepin in 2005 as division manager of operations and maintenance, before returning to I/N Tek & I/N Kote in 2007 as division manager of quality, technology and reliability.
Since November 2012, Cayia served as operations manager of ArcelorMittal Columbus, which operates two finishing facilities in central Ohio. In this role, he established practices to consistently support exposed quality for the automotive market.
Cayia has a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from University of Michigan and an MBA from Indiana University South Bend.
Cayia succeeds Chris Richards who was named president of AM/NS Calvert, an ArcelorMittal-NSSMC joint venture in Calvert, Ala. The sale of the Calvert facility was completed in February 2014.
Created in 1987, I/N Tek and I/N Kote are joint ventures of the world’s largest and second largest steelmakers, ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC). Located in New Carlisle, Ind., about 60 miles east of ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor, I/N Tek and I/N Kote receive virtually all feedstock from Indiana Harbor via daily unit trains. I/N Tek, a 60/40 joint venture, is a continuous cold-rolling plant capable of producing approximately 1.7 million tons annually through the Continuous Descale Cold Mill (CDCM) and 1.2 million tons annually through the Continuous Annealing Processing Line (CAPL). I/N Kote, a 50/50 joint venture, operates separate lines capable of producing 500,000 tons of hot-dip galvanized and galvannealed and 400,000 tons of electrogalvanized sheet annually. Primarily serving the automotive and appliance markets, I/N Tek and I/N Kote products are marketed through managing joint venture partner ArcelorMittal.
