Hydrogen Will Support Steel Decarbonization, but So Will Carbon Capture, Linde CEO Says

Lamba, speaking during the Global Steel Dynamics Forum, said that although he remains bullish on hydrogen's role in decarbonization, it's not enough. Carbon capture and storage, therefore, will have a role to play, too.

"I'm very bullish on the role hydrogen is going to play, but it's not the magic bullet and it's not going to solve everyone's problems," he said.

Rather, he said, a combinaton of technological solutions will drive decarbonization of the steel industry, carbon capture and storage being among them, he said.

And that's especially so in places where the geology supports it, including the U.S., Canada and the Middle East, Lamba said.

The Global Steel Dynamics Forum is taking place today and Tuesday in New York City. Check back with AIST Steel News for updates.
