Hydnum Steel, Knauf Interfer Collaboration Aims to Boost European Green Steel Supply
10/02/2024 - European steel processor and distributor Knauf Interfer has signed a memorandum of understanding with Spanish green steel startup Hydnum Steel to buy EUR80 million worth of product annually.
In a statement, the companies said the partnership aims to boost the supply of emissions-free green steel in Europe. The two also intend to establish a green steel supply network, utilizing Knauf Interfer’s production and supply chain management platform centered around a trimodal hub in Duisburg, Germany.
“This excellent inner port location will serve as a key hub to serve customers in Central European markets, optimizing logistics and ensuring efficient, resilient and sustainable deliveries,” the companies said.
Future collaboration is also contemplated in steel product processing, with Knauf Interfer offering cutting, segmentation, and re-coiling services tailored for Hydnum Steel’s customers. Additionally, the two companies plan to partner on recycling ferrous scrap, with scrap generated by Knauf Interfer’s network to be recycled at Hydnum Steel’s planned Puertollano plant.
