Hot Demand From Solar Industry Prompts ArcelorMittal to Boost Production of Its Magnelis Steel
06/09/2017 - ArcelorMittal has expanded its capacity to make its Magnelis line of coated steel, adapting a hot-dipped galvanizing line in Spain to produce the product, the steelmaker has announced.
In a statement, ArcelorMittal Asturias said its Avilés plant is producing the coated steel in thicknesses of between 0.5 mm and 2 mm.
ArcelorMittal said the product is differentiated by the coating’s composition. It has a higher magnesium content, providing the underlying steel with a stable and robust protective coating across the entire surface.
The steelmaker said consumption of the product has tripled over the last three years, driven in part by demand from the solar industry.
"Magnelis has enjoyed success in the solar energy market in particular, becoming the industry’s reference product for ground- mounted structures," ArcelorMittal said.
