Here's How Much the Steel Industry Generates for the U.S. Economy
05/24/2018 - The iron and steel industry contributes more than US$520 billion to the U.S. economy and supports more than 1 million jobs at steel facilities and industry suppliers, according to an economic impact study commissioned by the American Iron and Steel Institute.
According to the study, the industry also was responsible for nearly US$56 billion in local, state and federal tax revenue.
“The American iron and steel industry is a dynamic part of the U.S. economy. This comprehensive analysis provides detailed geographic breakdowns, including at the congressional district level, and is the most accurate snapshot of the full breadth of the economic impact of today’s American iron and steel industry,” said Thomas J. Gibson, the institute's president and chief executive.
