Here’s What the World’s First Vehicle Made With Fossil-Free Steel Looks Like
10/13/2021 - Volvo Group have unveiled the design for the world’s first vehicle built from fossil fuel–free steel.
Executives from Volvo and partner SSAB debuted the concept vehicle this morning in a livestreamed event featuring keynote speeches from EU internal market commissioner Thierry Breton and Swedish Minister of Enterprise and Innovation Ibrahim Baylan.
The concept vehicle is a load carrier intended for commercial mining and quarrying applications. The automaker will begin with small-scale series production of the machine in 2022 and eventually ramp up to mass production at a later date.
"Having the world’s first actual vehicle made using SSAB’s fossil-free steel is a true milestone. Our collaboration with Volvo Group shows that green transition is possible and brings results," said SSAB president and chief executive Martin Lindqvist.
