Heidtman Steel to Build Continuous Anneal Line
05/11/2007 - Heidtman Steel Products Inc. is finalizing plans to construct a new continuous annealing line capable of producing advanced high strength and ultra high strength steels.
Heidtman Steel Products Inc. is finalizing plans to construct a new continuous annealing (CAL) facility.
The new 500,000 tons/year line, which is expected to cost approximately $225,000,000 including downstream processing equipment, will be capable of producing both advanced high strength and ultra high strength steels (AHSS and UHSS), including martensitic grades. It will produce material thicknesses from .015 to .090 inch (0.4 to 2.3 mm) up to a maximum width of 65 inch (1651 mm).
Heidtman says that it is evaluating several Midwest locations, primarily at sites in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana that will offer specific logistical advantages. The company says it has not ruled out other locations including the southern U.S. due to the growing number of automotive plants in that region.
“Our plan to build a new continuous annealing facility is a natural progression with higher strength steels, and reinforces our brand as the high strength experts,” said John Bates, CEO of Heidtman. “It also underscores our commitment to our customers to remain at the cutting edge of technology. We see an emerging growth in demand for these products, especially in the automotive market.”
