Hatch Associates Brings Aboard Industry Veteran
01/29/2016 - Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) president George J. Koenig has been tapped to lead the business development efforts for the iron and steel unit at Hatch Associates Inc.
As the director of global business and technology development, Koenig will oversee client development and growth strategies, leveraging the company’s technical advisory, technology, project delivery and operational support capabilities.
Ted Lyon, Hatch’s managing director for iron and steel, said in a statement that having Koenig aboard will allow the company to effectively develop its services and technologies in what is a changing industry.
“His demonstrated leadership and acumen in bringing value to customers is a key part of our differentiation and growth strategy,” Lyon said.
Headquartered in Ontario,Canada, Hatch is an engineering and professional services firm serving the mining, metallurgical, energy and infrastructure sectors. Koenig will work out of Hatch’s office in Pittsburgh, Pa., USA.
Koenig is an industry veteran with more than 30 years of experience under his belt.
Prior to Hatch, he worked for Berry Metal Co., a Pennsylvania-based manufacturer of injection lances.
He joined Berry Metal in 2000 as vice president of sales and marketing, and under his direction, the company grew from a leading technology-based designer and manufacturer of steelmaking injection lances to a global industry leader in promoting advanced steelmaking and ironmaking technologies.
He was named president in 2006.
Before his Berry Metal tenure, Koenig spent 25 years in marketing and sales with steel industry supplier Heraeus Electro-Nite Co. LLC.
Koenig holds a bachelor’s degree in business management and marketing from Drexel University and an associate’s degree in metallurgy from The Pennsylvania State University.
