Harsco Promotes Longtime Employee to Executive Ranks
08/17/2016 - Mill services contractor Harsco has promoted a company veteran to the newly created role of chief operating officer in its metals and minerals unit.
In the position, Chris Whistler will have oversight of the unit’s global operations and will become a part of the Pennsylvania-based company’s executive leadership team. Whistler previously oversaw the unit’s bid and contract management functions.
He joined Harsco in 1993 through the acquisition of MultiServ, the company said.
“The creation of the chief operating officer position in Metals & Minerals reflects Chris’ instrumental role as we have worked to transform this business over the past few years,” Harsco president and chief executive Nicholas Grasberger said in a statement.
“Metals & Minerals now has best-in-class processes, a more balanced and effective organizational structure and a more competitive cost position. This business is now also poised to pursue select growth opportunities,” he said.
Additionally, the company announced that Harsco Rail president Scott Jacoby has resigned.
“I want to thank Scott, who has had a long and valued tenure with Harsco,” Grasberger said. “He has been instrumental in executing our strategic priorities in Rail and we wish Scott success in his future endeavors.”
Grasberger will take on Jacoby’s duties until a successor can be found. The company said a search already has begun.
Also, the company said Sam Fenice has been named vice president and corporate controller. Fenice had been serving as corporate controller.
“Sam’s promotion is reflective of the talent and efforts of our corporate team. Sam possesses a thorough understanding of the company’s global operations and financial reporting structure, and he has earned the trust and respect of colleagues throughout Harsco and of our board of directors,” Grasberger said.
