HarbisonWalker International Plans New Refractories Plant
02/22/2017 - Refractories manufacturer HarbisonWalker International plans to build a US$30 million monolithic refractories plant in the Ohio River Valley, the company has announced.
The facility, to be built somewhere in southern Ohio or northern Kentucky, is being designed with a capacity of 80,000 metric tons and is to begin production by early 2018.
“Monolithics are a growth area, and the new plant will enable us to further elevate product quality and consistency,” said HarbisonWalker senior vice president and general manager Carol Jackson in a statement.
“From a broader perspective, the new plant represents an overall strategy to reinforce our leadership position in refractories through significant investments in our people, processes and products.”
The company said the plant will be highly automated and will make use of lean production techniques throughout the operations. In addition, the facility will introduce advanced packaging technologies that are new to the North American market, the company said.
