Hadeed Starts up Danieli TMB Wire Rod Line

Saudi I&S (Hadeed), Saudi Arabia, recently completed commissioning of its new twin module block (TMB) unit, concluding the startup of a complete new bar and wire rod mill supplied by Danieli.

The new plant features an EWR billet welder for uninterrupted production at the mill and a TMB system that, while enhancing the mill’s efficiency, also grants very high wire-rod finishing speeds. Made up of 18 SHS stands, a production outlet for straight bars, and the TMB-based high-speed wire rod line, the mill is designed to produce 8 to 40-mm deformed bars and 5.5 to 16-mm (including down to 6-mm diameter deformed) wire rod. The addition of the TMB Twin Module Block unit makes it possible for the mill to reach finishing speeds of 115 meters/second for production of 5.5-mm diameter wire rod in 2.5-tonne coils.

Danieli’s complete turnkey supply included the electricals and automation system, a 110 tonne/hour walking-hearth reheat furnace, and all auxiliary plants and systems, including water treatment and compressed air plants, roll turning shop, EOT cranes, etc. Danieli also supplied all buildings, civil works, and road system, as well as construction of the entire plant.

The state-of-the-art plant, which was installed at the Saudi Iron & Steel Al-Jubail steel complex, was commissioned in stages. The optimized startup program began in February of 2006 with the bar line, followed by the EWR® first billets welding, then startup of the wire rod line (without TMB operation).

Danieli had installed a previous high-capacity bar and section mill at the Saudi Iron & Steel Al-Jubail steel complex in 1993.
