Global Steel Production Down in August
09/22/2015 - Worldwide crude steel production fell 3 percent in August, dropping to 132.2 million metric tons, according to the World Steel Association.
According to the association, production declined from 136.5 million metric tons in August 2014. More than half of global production came from China, which made 66.9 million metric tons, a 3.5 percent decline.
Production was down in other major steel-producing countries as well.
Japan, for example, made 8.8 million metric tons, a 5.8 percent decline. Russian production dipped 3.2 percent to 6.0 million metric tons. The United States posted a 9.7 percent decline as its production fell to 6.9 million metric tons.
The association collects production data from 65 countries, representing approximately 98 percent of 2014 output.
