According to SMS group, it installed its HD spray technology on the two-strand caster at ArcelorMittal’s Bremen works during outages in November and December. 

SMS group said the new cooling system is a scalable water distribution and control system that requires less space and pipework than conventional systems. Although there already are similar systems employing independent cooling circuits across the width of the slab, SMS group's technology takes it a step further, it said.

"Compact HD spray boxes fitted close to the spray nozzles, and not in the water distribution room, take over the function of control valves. This helps to significantly reduce the required interconnecting pipework," it said. 
 
SMS group provided the basic and detail engineering, installed the system and the associated piping, and supervised commissioning.
