German EAF Mill Commissions New Furnace Manipulator
08/12/2016 - German specialty steelmaker BGH has commissioned an automatic temperature and sampling manipulator on an electric arc furnace at its Freital facility, according to the vendor on the project.
According to MORE, a maker of EAF equipment, the new CATFIS 2.1 manipulator operates through the 42-ton furnace’s slag door. It operates on four axes and has 4 degrees of freedom.
“Because of its design, it can operate in very constrained and confined areas and it can be easily reconfigured if changes on the plant take place,” the company said in a statement.
