Gerdau Shakes Up North American Leadership
01/23/2018 - Gerdau and the president of its North American long steel division have parted ways.
In an announcement Tuesday afternoon, the company said Peter Campo had stepped down, effective immediately. Campo had been with Gerdau for nearly 10 years and was named president of the long steel division in 2014.
“The recent change in our business portfolio in North America demanded a shift in leadership to sharpen the focus on profitability and, at the same time, seek innovative ways to better serve our customers,” Gerdau chief executive Gustavo Werneck said.
Gerdau on 2 January announced that it had sold four U.S. rebar mills and 33 rebar fabrications facilities to Commercial Metals Company for US$600 million. The four mills together have a melting capacity of about 2.7 million tons annually.
Werneck said he will take on Campo’s responsibilities until a successor is named.
