Gallatin Steel Receives Award for Excellence in Employee Health

Gallatin Steel has again been recognized as one of the “Healthiest Companies in America” by Interactive Health Solutions (IHS). Gallatin Steel notes it is one of only three organizations out of 1500 to receive this award three years in a row.

The award was based on clinical results across an index of key health indicators including blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, and triglyceride levels. IHS bases its assessments on measurements that are influenced by healthy lifestyle choices including regular exercise, a balanced diet, and refraining from tobacco use.

Gallatin Steel notes that excellent 2009 health-screen results reflect a strong wellness commitment among its associates.

“In addition to the annual health screens, our company has implemented a variety of other initiatives to encourage associate wellness,” said Cathy Hanley, General Manager of Human Resources and Public Relations. “These include having regular on-site hours for both a physician and an employee assistance program counselor; offering an onsite walking trail and state of the art fitness center; and reimbursing associates and their family members for healthy lifestyle activities such as gym memberships, personal trainer services, weight loss programs, and tobacco cessation assistance.”

Interactive Health Solutions, based in Chicago, Ill., is a nationwide provider of population health management programs.

Gallatin Steel, located in Ghent, Ky., is a flat-rolled carbon steel producer that employs 470 associates.
