Gallatin Steel Celebrates Excellent Safety Record

Gallatin Steel is proud to recognize the outstanding safety record achieved by company associates during the first half of 2004.

“It has taken tremendous effort to achieve excellent productivity and quality results this year while having no lost-time accidents and maintaining an OSHA injury rate that is 88% better than our industry average. We are very proud of every Gallatin Steel associate for this achievement.”

Don Daily, President
Gallatin Steel

Through June, Gallatin employees achieved an OSHA recordable injury rate less than 1.0. This compares with the steel industry average rate of 8.0, or eight injuries for every 100 full-time employees. In July, for the third time this year, Gallatin Steel celebrated an accident-free month, and treated all associates to a complimentary lunch.

Butch Collins, Gallatin Steel’s Manager of Safety and Security, credits the safety record improvement to increased employee involvement and participation in all aspects of the company’s safety programs. “This year,” comments Collins, “safety has truly been a team effort in every way.”

Gallatin Steel, a flat-rolled carbon steel producer, employs 400 people. The company is located in Ghent, Ky., on the banks of the Ohio River approximately one hour from Louisville, Ky., and Cincinnati, Ohio.
