Gallatin Steel Announces New President, Organizational Changes

Gallatin Steel announced the promotion of Tobin Pospisil to the position of President of Gallatin Steel Co.

Pospisil, who currently serves the company as Chief Financial Officer and General Manager of Administration and Finance, succeeds Don Daily, who passed away earlier this month after a brief illness. In his new position, Tobin will report to Louis Schorsch of ArcelorMittal and Mario Longhi of Gerdau Ameristeel, Gallatin Steel’s two parent corporations.

“Although we are all saddened by the recent passing of Don Daily, we are confident that Tobin will be an outstanding successor as he undertakes a transition for which Don and the Gallatin Board had been preparing him for the past several months,” commented Schorsch and Longhi.

Pospisil spent thirteen years with GS Industries in Charlotte, N.C., prior to joining Gallatin in 2003. He is a graduate of the University of Nebraska and holds an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.

In addition to Pospisil’s appointment, Gallatin also announced the promotion of Chuck Greene, General Manager Steel Making, to the new position of General Manager of Operations. In his new role, Greene will have responsibility for the meltshop, caster, rolling mill, raw materials, and plant services, along with Gallatin’s cut-to-length operation, Ghent Steel Industries.

Greene worked for five years with Tippins Inc. before beginning his career at Gallatin in 1995. He holds a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.

Gallatin also announced the promotion of Mark Santen to General Manager Administration. In his new position, Santen, who previously served as General Manager of Purchasing, will have overall responsibility for finance, purchasing, human resources, and information systems.

Santen, a thirteen-year employee of the company, worked for ten years in the Commercial Department. He is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and holds an MBA from Xavier University.

The company also announced that Sarah Zimmerman has assumed the new position of General Manager Finance. Zimmerman, who has served as the company’s Controller since 2003, was previously an accountant with Mayer Parry Recycling in Kent, England for six years. She began her career with Gallatin in 1997, and has held a series of increasingly responsible positions in the company’s Accounting Department.

Located in Ghent, Ky., Gallatin Steel is a flat-rolled carbon steel producer, and employs 430 associates. The company is located on the banks of the Ohio River approximately one hour from Louisville, Ky., and Cincinnati, Ohio.
