Fujian Dingsheng Starts Up Primetals Technologies’ Eco-Friendly Mini-Mill

According to the equipment supplier, this is “the first environmentally friendly mini-mill installation worldwide where EAF Quantum and Arvedi ESP are combined.”

The low electrical energy requirement contributes to a reduction in both CO2 emissions and operating costs. For its first rolling step, the Arvedi ESP process uses heat from the cast strand, followed by an induction heater that supports the second rolling step. The EAF Quantum requires considerably less energy and allows for up to a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions per metric ton of crude steel compared to conventional arc furnaces.

The 180-m-long Arvedi ESP line has a capacity of 2.5 million metric tons per year for thicknesses down to 0.8 mm, which allows Henan Yaxin to produce high-quality, ultrathin strip without cold rolling.

Primetals Technologies supplied the entire mechanical and electrical process equipment for both new EAF Quantum electric arc furnaces and the Arvedi ESP line, it said in a press release.
