Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Orders Semi-Continuous Billet Mill from SMS Meer
03/26/2014 - For its new integrated steel plant in Ha Tinh Province, Vietnam, Formosa Ha Tinh Steel has placed an order with SMS Meer for a semi-continuous billet mill.
The produced billets will be used within the Formosa Group as starting material for the production of wire rod and bars. With the mill, Formosa Ha Tinh Steel will be able to use continuously casted billets as well as rolled billets for the downstream process. Thereby, Formosa Ha Tinh Steel is gaining quality and flexibility in producing high-quality SBQ steel products.
Formosa Ha Tinh Steel will produce 160-millimeters und 180-millimeters square billets on the new mill. The maximum production capacity is 1 million tons per year. It is possible to increase the production capacity up to 2 million tons per year in a second expansion phase.
Among other things, the scope includes — beside the complete mechanical equipment and electrics and automation — theoretical and practical training of Formosa’s workforce.
Commissioning of the semi-continuous billet mill is scheduled for 2015.
