Fives Wins Ternium Galvanizing Line Order
08/23/2023 - Ternium has contracted Fives to build a 600,000-metric-ton galvanizing line for its Pesquería, Mexico, flat-rolled facility, the equipment manufacturer has announced.
According to Fives, the line will be capable of processing hot- and cold-rolled sheets in widths of up to 1,854 mm and in thicknesses of up to 4.5 mm. Production will be geared for construction and non-exposed automotive applications.
“This highly advanced line is based on our metallurgical expertise and industrial experience acquired building and commissioning strip processing lines across the world and confirms our successful track record in supplying heavy-gauge galvanizing lines in recent years,” said Guillaume Mehlman, president of Fives steel and glass division.
Commissioning is set for the end of 2025.
The line is part of a US$1 billion investment meant to expand the plant’s value-added and finishing capabilities. In addition to the galvanizing line, Ternium is installing a 1.6-million-metric-ton cold mill, a pickling line and other finishing equipment.
