Fives to Supply Two New Processing Line Furnaces to Baosteel Zhanjiang

One Stein Digiflex® vertical annealing furnace is to be supplied for a 700,000 tons per annum continuous annealing line (CAL), the second one is for a 270,000 tons per annum continuous galvanizing line (CGL). The Stein Digiflex® annealing furnaces have new compact design features and the most advanced combustion and cooling technologies, including the latest generation of AdvantTek® WRT 2.0 combustion system. Such combustion technology benefits from high recuperative energy efficiency, low NOx emissions and usage of the site generated fuels. It will allow Baosteel Zhanjiang Steel Plant to significantly reduce operational expenses, minimize environmental footprint and achieve its target of a "double excellent project" and a highly efficient plant.

A 10-million-tons-per-annum steel project in Zhanjiang port with an estimated investment of US$11 billion has been undergoing several stages of construction. Zhanjiang's first phase started up in 2013 with a capacity of 2.2 million tons per annum from a 2,030-mm cold mill. The second phase, launched in August 2014, encompasses a 1,550-mm wide cold rolling mill with a pickling line, a pickling line-tandem mill, a continuous annealing line and a continuous hot-dip galvanizing line to be progressively put into operation in 2016–2017. Output capacity is 2.55 million tons per annum of coils, mainly appliance and automotive sheet.

Since 2005, Baosteel has entrusted Fives with a total of five full processing lines — CAL and CGL, and six vertical annealing furnaces for CALs and CGLs for its Baoshan and Zhanjiang plants — positioning Fives as its close partner and technology provider in the field of high-quality processing lines and annealing furnaces for advanced automotive and other high value-added products.
