First Prime Coil Comes Off the Line at Upgraded Nucor Plant

According to Danieli, the coil was made on 24 June, marking a milestone in a project that converted the mill from a traditional, compact, thin-slab casting and rolling plant into ultra-modern Danieli Quality Strip Production plant.

The new plant configuration allows Nucor Steel Gallatin to expand the production of advanced high-strength steel, API line pipe grades, and a number of other added-value grades, in widths up to 73.5 inches.

"The revamped plant includes a new, high-performance DC electric arc furnace featuring Danieli’s Q-Melt package and a twin ladle furnace, with future provision for a vacuum degasser, as well as a new single-strand, vertical-curved Dysencaster® having a total capacity of up to 3 million short tons per year," Danieli said.
