Primetals Technologies said in a statement that the EAF and ladle furnace are part of a Wuzhou Yongda greenfield project that will produce stainless steels. The privately owned steelmaker, which operates in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China, makes rods, coiled rebar and coiled wire.

Primetals Technologies said the EAF Quantum furnace is the first such furnace in continuous operation in China. Another eight are to come. 

For this project, Primetals Technologies supplied the mechanical and electrical process equipment and the automation technology, which includes automated scrap yard management, an automated scrap charging system, and automated oxygen injection and sand refilling. 

Primetals Technologies’ EAF Quantum furnace combines shaft furnace technology with a scrap pre-heating and charging system that relies on an elevator system and chute instead of a crane and bucket.
