First 1-Inch Coil Processed on New Red Bud Line

U.S.-based Red Bud said the line was built for plate and sheet distributor PVS Metals' Omaha, Neb., USA, facility. It is the largest cut-to-length line the company has ever built for a customer.

Equipped with a 3,000 ton stretcher leveler, the new line is capable of processing 1-inch thick steel in widths of up 77 inches. It has a coil-weight capacity of 80,000 pounds. The maximum stack length is 576 inches, with provisions to run up to 720 inches.

It has a maximum speed of 200 feet per minute.

The line is outfitted with the company's SUREGRIP nonslip gripping technology and its Quick Draw technology that allows for cycle times of less than eight seconds.

“The line also runs in both start-stop and looping modes. Material up to .375 inches thick can be run in looping mode, again making the line one of only a select few that can do so,” the company said in a statement.

Red Bud also said the line is equipped with a high-speed shear and its Switch Blade technology – quick-change knife cassettes that reduce blade-change time to minutes.

“The shear also automatically sets knife clearance and has the ability to automatically adjust the angle of the shear in order to improve squareness tolerance of the cut parts,” the company said.
