Fire at Welspun Plant Causes Major Damage

A fire at the Welspun pipe plant in Little Rock, Ark., in the early morning of Saturday, 14 July 2012 has caused more than $1.5 million in damages, according to the Little Rock Fire Department (LRFD), and shutdown the facility temporarily.
The LRFD says electrical equipment in the control room overheated and caught fire. No one was injured, but all the equipment in that room was destroyed.
The fire was contained to the one room but smoke and soot damaged other parts of the plant, according to firefighters.
There has been no word yet on when the plant will reopen.
Welspun says about 400 people are employed at the plant. The state of the art $150 million API-certified Little Rock facility is capable of producing 350,000 tons of HSAW (spiral welded) pipes annually.
