February Steel Shipments up 9.9% from Last February
04/17/2008 - U.S. steel mills shipped 9,174,000 net tons in February 2008, a 9.9% increase from the 8,350,000 net tons shipped in February 2007, but an 0.8% decrease from the 9,246,000 net tons shipped in the previous month, January 2008.
U.S. steel mills shipped 9,174,000 net tons in February 2008, according to the latest report from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
The report, which is based on preliminary Census Bureau data, shows that the February total represents a 9.9% increase from the 8,350,000 net tons shipped in February 2007, and an 0.8% decrease from the 9,246,000 net tons shipped in the previous month, January 2008.
A year-to-year comparison of year-to-date shipments shows the following changes within major market classifications:
- Service centers and distributors, + 8.2%
- Automotive, + 3.1%
- Construction and contractors’ products, + 4.5%
- Oil and gas, + 5.3%
