February Steel Shipments Down 7.5% from January
04/19/2011 - U.S. steel mills shipped 6,967,481 net tons for the month of February 2011, a 7.5% decrease from the 7,528,655 net tons shipped in the previous month, according to the latest report from AISI.
U.S. steel mills shipped 6,967,481 net tons for the month of February 2011, according to the latest report from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
The February total represents a 7.5% decrease from the 7,528,655 net tons shipped in the previous month, January 2011, and a 10.4% increase from the 6,311,076 net tons shipped in February 2010.
Year-to-date shipments are 14,496,136 net tons, a 12.5% increase vs. 2010 shipments of 12,890,884 net tons for the comparable two-month period. 2011 shipments through February would annualize at 87 million tons.
A month-to-month comparison of shipments shows the following changes:
· Hot dip galvanized sheet and strip, down 5%
· Cold rolled sheet, down 5%
· Hot rolled sheet, down 7%
