February Steel Shipments Down 1.1% from January
04/18/2012 - U.S. steel mills shipped 8,407,343 net tons for the month of February 2012, a 1.1% decrease from the 8,497,932 net tons shipped in the previous month, according to the latest release from AISI.
U.S. steel mills shipped 8,407,343 net tons for the month of February 2012, according to the latest release from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
The February total represents a 1.1% decrease from the 8,497,932 net tons shipped in the previous month, January 2012, and a 20.7% increase from the 6,967,481 net tons shipped last year, in February 2011.
Year-to-date shipments for 2012 are 16,905,275 net tons, a 16.6% increase vs. 2011 shipments of 14,496,136 net tons for the first two months. 2012 shipments through February would annualize at 101 million tons.
A month-to-month comparison of shipments shows the following changes:
· Hot-dip galvanized sheets and strip, up 7%
· Cold rolled sheet, down 4%
· Hot rolled sheet, down 6%
