Faster Than a Speeding Bullet, Tesla's Cybertruck Is Also Impervious to Them, Thanks to Its Stainless Steel Construction
11/22/2019 - Ford Motor Co. rattled the steel industry back in 2014 when it debuted an aluminum-bodied version of the best-selling Ford F-150 pick-up. And now, it’s Tesla’s turn to shake up the automotive market with its electric Cybertruck, which was revealed Thursday.
But this time, the steel industry can breathe a bit easier—Cybertruck features a stainless steel shell.
“It is literally bulletproof to a 9 mm handgun,” Tesla founder Elon Musk told onlookers during the unveiling at the L.A. Autoshow, according to TechCrunch. “That’s how strong the skin is — it’s ultra-hard, cold-rolled stainless steel alloy that we’ve developed. We’re going to be using the same alloy in the (SpaceX) Starship rocket, and in the Cybertruck.”
The top-end version of Cybertruck boasts a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds.
