Fabricator Upgrades LSAW Line with Danieli Measuring System
03/30/2017 - Danieli has won an order for an automatic measuring system from Italian steel fabricator Cimolai, the equipment supplier has announced.
According to Danieli, the system will be used to measure longitudinally submerged-arc welded large-diameter pipes, improving their precision and reliability. The system would automate procedures that are now done manually, Danieli said.
The system incorporates high-resolution cameras and LEDs to create a three-dimensional computer model, which is used to determine straightness. Outer diameters are measured with high-definition cameras and lasers.
“The new system will control the straightness and outer diameters of extra-large pipes in fully automatic mode using a precise, efficient and user-friendly interface,” the company said. “The internal automatic calibration system substantially eliminates the requirement to feed sample pipes, thereby offering a substantial reduction in setup time.”
Cimolai makes highly specialized structural products that go into bridges and viaducts; industrial, civil, and military structures; off-shore structures; and ships.
