Fabricator Inaugurates Solar Farm Components Facility
06/28/2022 - Solar farm technology specialist Nextracker and its manufacturing partner have cut the ribbon on a Pittsburgh, Pa., USA, production facility that will make steel components for large-scale solar facilities.
During a ceremony Tuesday, Nextracker and BCI Steel executives spoke to the importance of manufacturing to the domestic economy while showcasing some of the equipment that is being used in the facility, once a part of a Bethlehem Steel site along the Ohio River.
“BCI Steel’s Pittsburgh factory enables the quick-ship response times we need to meet booming demand from our customers in the Mid-Atlantic and Heartland regions,” said Dan Shugar, founder and chief executive of Nextracker. “This investment will increase the resilience of the U.S. solar supply chain and bring manufacturing jobs, equipment, and capacity back to America.”
U. S. Steel is supplying steel to the facility.
“U.S. Steel is pleased to supply steel that is mined, melted and made in America for Nextracker’s advanced solar tracker systems. We applaud Nextracker’s expansion of manufacturing in Pittsburgh and other locations in the U.S.,” said U. S. Steel chief commercial officer Ken Jaycox. “Providing industry leading products for our customers utilizing advanced technology and fully optimized facilities is key to U. S. Steel’s Best for All strategy.”
