Expired Contract Doesn’t Stop Universal Stainless Dunkirk Workers

Universal Stainless & Alloy Products, Inc. announced that its Dunkirk Specialty Steel, LLC subsidiary has agreed with the United Steelworkers (USW) that the Dunkirk hourly employees will continue to operate at the company's Dunkirk facility, despite expiration of the collective bargaining agreement at midnight on October 31, 2007.

The groups said the extension would provide additional time for union members to consider the terms and conditions of the proposed new labor agreement.

During the extension, the employees, represented by USW Local 2693, will continue to work under the terms and conditions of the prior agreement. Either party may terminate the extension agreement with 72 hours notice.

The company noted that its facilities in Bridgeville, Pa., and Titusville, Pa., are covered by separate collective bargaining agreements and are not affected by the current negotiations.

Headquartered in Bridgeville, Pa., Universal Stainless & Alloy Products manufactures and markets a broad line of semi-finished and finished specialty steels, including stainless steel, tool steel and certain other alloyed steels. The company's products are sold to rerollers, forgers, service centers, original equipment manufacturers and wire redrawers.
