EXO Technologies Provides Electrode Addition Systems to Nucor Steel

March 4, 2004 — Nucor Steel recently commissioned EXO Technologies 22-Inch On-Furnace Electrode Addition System at its Seattle, Wash., facility.

The EXO equipment is operated by radio control and PLC from the meltshop floor to make automatic electrode additions on the EAF. The benefits that have been realized by Nucor Seattle include reduced delays associated with electrode additions, which requires only three minutes of power-off. Additional benefits include improved safety, and reduced electrode consumption due to proper torque to the joints.

Based on the successful project in the Seattle plant, Nucor will install EXO’s 24-Inch System in their Jewett, Texas, meltshop, with startup scheduled during the second quarter of 2004.
