Executive Chairman of EVRAZ North America Awarded Gary Memorial Medal

Rehwinkel, the Institute’s immediate past chairman, was recognized with the award at a dinner during AISI’s Board of Directors meeting in Washington, D.C, on 12 November.

In presenting the award, Mike Rippey, AISI chairman and chairman of ArcelorMittal USA, said, “On behalf of the Institute, I’m honored to present the Gary Memorial Medal to Mike. In his role as chairman of AISI and executive at EVRAZ North America, Mike has been a strong voice for the U.S. steel industry and manufacturing sector. AISI has valued his leadership, dedication to the nearly 150,000 U.S. steel industry workers and commitment to raising the profile on the critical issues that impact the North American steel industry.”

The medal’s inscription reads: “In recognition of his leadership, breadth of industry insight and tremendous understanding of the global marketplace during a pivotal time for the North American steel industry; for his optimism in challenging times; for his commitment to strengthening pro-manufacturing policies; and his strong belief in steel’s importance to America’s manufacturing renaissance.”

Rehwinkel served as chairman of the AISI Board of Directors from May 2013-May 2014 and chaired a number of board-level committees. He was elected to the AISI Board of Directors in May 2010. Rehwinkel joined Chicago-based EVRAZ North America in February 2010.
