EVRAZ Vitkovice Steel Suspends Operations

Due to convertor overhaul, the operations at EVRAZ VÍTKOVICE STEEL were temporarily suspended as of 1 September 2013. Other cost centers remain operating and completing customers’ orders, the company said.
Mill employees not involved in the repair, maintenance or other work for the operations will stay home and receive 80% of their salary, or will take a holiday. The provision affects approximately 250 employees of the steel plant.
The restart date of the steel mill has not yet been determined. However the steel mill can be restarted under the condition that the deadline for implementation of the secondary de-dusting of the steel mill is extended by the Moravian-Silesian Regional Authority. The company has made prearrangements with the pig iron supplier, ArcelorMittal Ostrava, regarding supplies for the month of October.
