EVRAZ Stratcor Announces Management Changes
04/10/2014 - EVRAZ Stratcor recently made two new management appointments.
Steven R. Kymes has been appointed quality manager for the company’s high-quality vanadium-aluminum master alloys used by the titanium industry, especially in critical aerospace applications. He will be located at the New Castle, Pa., plant of Kennametal International Specialty Alloys, EVRAZ Stratcor’s long-time partner that produces vanadium-aluminum from EVRAZ Stratcor high-purity vanadium pentoxide.
Mr. Kymes jointed EVRAZ Stratcor’s Hot Springs, Ark., plant in 1995 and has held several production positions, including superintendent of the company’s vanadium-leach and halides operations. He will replace Bill Backlund, who is retiring after 36 years with the company.
“Steve Kymes’ strong background in the production and quality-focus of our business will help us make sure that our vanadium-aluminum master alloys meet the ever-growing quality needs of our titanium customers,” said Brandon Davis, president of EVRAZ Stratcor. “At the same time, we appreciate the long and dedicated service of Bill Backlund, especially his efforts to make our vanadium master alloys consistently meet the quality expectations of our titanium customers.”
David V. Miltenberger has been named sales manager for EVRAZ Statcor’s master alloys and specialty-vanadium chemicals used by the titanium, chemical, petrochemical, gas-processing, storage-battery, and other specialized industries. He will be located in the company’s sales office in Chicago, Ill.
Before joining EVRAZ Stratcor, Mr. Miltenberger had been U.S. sales manager for flat-rolled products produced by EVRAZ’s steel operations in the U.S. A graduate of Indiana University with BA and MBA degrees, Mr. Miltenberger held sales positions with other steel companies before becoming part of the EVRAZ sales organization.
“Dave Miltenberger’s extensive sales experience will help us meet the specialty-vanadium needs of chemical and titanium producers throughout the world,” said Brae Ewers, vice president, marketing of EVRAZ Stratcor. “We look forward to utilizing his skills and experience in serving these markets.”
EVRAZ Stratcor’s plant in Hot Springs, Ark., is a leading producer of extremely high-purity vanadium pentoxide, which is converted to aerospace-quality vanadium-aluminum and specialty-vanadium chemicals, catalysts, and electrolytes. A recent US$7 million expansion has allowed the plant to diversity its feedstocks and start processing roasted vanadium-bearing steelmaking slag, increasing the plant’s capacity to 9 million pounds of vanadium pentoxide per year.
