Evraz Plans Further Curtailments at Colorado Mill
03/21/2016 - After announcing plans to indefinitely idle the seamless tube mill at its Colorado plant, Evraz North America has said it will temporarily halt steelmaking and idle the rail mill there as well, according to reports.
“The idling … is necessary to align production with demand. Rail demand has been impacted by the downturn in commodity markets, specifically coal, metals and oil, and the continued high volume of unfairly traded steel imports,” the company told The Pueblo Chieftain newspaper.
The curtailment, which affects approximately 450, is to last for two or three weeks. The mill’s rod and bar mill will continue to run.
Earlier this month, the company said it was indefinitely idling the plant’s seamless tube mill on account of competition from imported steel and the collapse in the oil and gas business, which has reduced drilling to historic lows.
