EVRAZ North America, Union Reach Labor Agreement
09/08/2017 - EVRAZ North America and unionized workers at its Regina, Sask., steel mill and its Calgary, Alta., welded tube mill have reached a tentative labor agreement, averting a strike that was set to begin Friday.
According to the Regina Leader-Post, the three-year agreement between the company and the United Steelworkers was reached on Thursday. A strike had been set to begin at 6 a.m. today.
The union’s bargaining committee is endorsing the deal. USW Western Canada director Steve Hunt told the Leader-Post that he believes union members will agree to accept the deal.
"We achieved a collective agreement for both Calgary and Regina that will hopefully serve our members well," he said. "… There are increases in all the areas we sought increases in. So all-in-all, a good deal for everybody I think."
