EVRAZ Eyes Expansion of U.S. Rail Capabilities
10/25/2018 - EVRAZ North America is weighing construction of a new US$480 million rail mill at its Rocky Mountain Steel facility in Pueblo, Colo., the company has announced.
According to the company, the mill would be capable of annually producing 600,000 tons' worth of 100-m lengths, helping the company to maintain its technical leadership. The company claims about 40% of the North American rail market.
“Major customers are supportive of the project with about 40% of forecasted volume locked in long-term contracts – additional volume commitments are possible in the coming months,” the company said.
The mill would be on the site of the facility’s shuttered coke plant, which closed in the early 1980s. The project, if built, would be supported by US$75 million in tax-increment financing plus an additional US$15 million incentive from the city of Pueblo.
