Evraz Completes Preliminary Studies on New Facilities That Can Recover Vanadium from Slag

Evraz Stratcor, Inc., an EVRAZ subsidiary, has completed engineering work and cost estimates on proposed new facilities at its Hot Springs, Ark., plant that can recover vanadium from steelmaking slag. The recovered vanadium would be converted into high performance vanadium specialty products used by the titanium and chemical industries.

These studies have confirmed the viability of this project. After obtaining the various governmental export licenses needed to ship this slag into the United States, EVRAZ is expected to approve the construction of this new facility at Hot Springs shortly. The new facilities are expected to come on stream in 2013.

In the meantime, Evraz Stratcor is vigorously pursuing alternate sources of vanadium secondary raw materials that will allow the Hot Springs plant to meet customer needs between now and the time that the plant can obtain vanadium from steelmaking slag.

EVRAZ is a vertically integrated steel, mining and vanadium business with operations in the Russian Federation, Ukraine, USA, Canada, Czech Republic, Italy and South Africa.

Evraz Stratcor, Inc. is a major producer of specialty vanadium alloys and chemicals used by the titanium, chemical, and steel industries. Its production is located in Hot Springs, Ark.
