Europe's Steel Industry Urges EU Leaders to Toughen Trade Measures
10/17/2016 - Nearly six dozen of Europe’s top steel executives have called upon European Union leaders to support measures that would protect the industry from unfair competition.
In a letter signed by 58 executives representing nearly all of Europe’s steel production, the executives asked that Europe’s leaders align themselves with the U.S. in refusing to grant China market economy status. They’re also calling for the EU to strengthen and streamline its trade defense measures.
In addition, the EU needs to revise its carbon trading system so that the emissions reductions it is attempting to bring about are fair and achievable.
“Make the right choices to ensure that our sector and its value chains flourish, investment continues, and the jobs of the men and women who work in our sector are sustained,” the executives urged leaders.
