EU Looks to Build Hydrogen Electrolysis Capacity
07/09/2020 - The European Union’s Clean Hydrogen Alliance held its inaugural meeting Wednesday and backed a goal to install at least 6 GW of renewable hydrogen electrolysis capacity by 2024.
“The Alliance will build on the EU leadership in hydrogen technologies, notably on electrolyzers, hydrogen refueling stations and megawatt-scale fuel cells, to bring promising technologies to an industrial scale for a dynamic hydrogen ecosystem in the EU,” the alliance declared.
The alliance brings together member countries, trade unions, research and technology groups, investors and non-governmental organizations to support implementation of the EU’s hydrogen strategy.
“The European Clean Hydrogen Alliance launched today will channel investments into hydrogen production. It will develop a pipeline of concrete projects to support the decarbonization efforts of European energy-intensive industries such as steel and chemicals. The alliance is strategically important for our Green Deal ambitions and the resilience of our industry,” said EU Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton.
